The existing staircase was rotten through so a modern replacement was required. A stone step and foundations already existed so the design of the staircase had to take this into account to ensure it sat on top of them.
Because the staircase was outside it was open to the elements so it was important the longevity of the wood was optimal. We used Iroko, a hardwood that is dense with high levels of naturally occurring oils which proves perfect against the ingress of water, rotting and the elements.
The result is a nice, clean, modern design that worked with the constraints given to us by the existing stone foundations.
