Constructionally, this staircase was not that much different to Treetops but it did demand a higher level of detail including fluted turned newels, 'wrought iron' balisters and more ornate bracketing to the strings. A beautifull oxbow gallery overlooks the reception room. Due to the size of the balcony, wooden framework alone would not support it so hidden steelwork runs through the mid-landing area providing stability for the substantial balcony. Note the detailing to the tops of the wall strings, this is designed to carry on through the mouldings of the skirtings. The arrangement of the balisters was specifically designed to follow the fluid movement of the handrail. Timber was chosen to compliment the existing floorboards and oak was used for the handrails.
This is another example of a beautiful and interesting staircase to work on with a continuous handrail to polish it off.
